Mitsubishi Kills i-MiEV Small Electric Car, Prepares Plug-in SUVs

Mitsubishi announced last month it will no longer sell its i-MiEV electric hatchback in the United States, ending a five-year run characterized mostly by disappointing sales. The company promises that eventually its SUV platforms will house plug-in hybrid or EV powertrains.

Dealers Remain Obstacle to Growth in Electric Vehicle Market

It's been five years since mainstream electric cars like the Nissan LEAF and Chevy Volt went on sale. In that time, plug-in car buyers have repeatedly complained about poor consumer experiences at car dealerships. Online forums provide numerous anecdotes about this apparent dealership bias against electric vehicles. And in the last year, the evidence has become far less anecdotal.

Largest EV Charging Networks Agree on Common Payment System

The new association, which represents the three largest charging network providers, will give its customers the ability to easily access and pay for public charging stations across the networks. This ability—referred to as interoperability—represents more than 90 percent of the public chargers in the United States.

Hyundai Will Launch Dedicated Green Vehicle Brand in 2016

Hyundai will launch a new green car brand, according to a report this week in The Korea Herald. The company is expected to start with a new dedicated conventional gas-electric hybrid, followed by the release plug-in hybrid and pure EV versions of the same car.

Volvo Aims for Plug-Ins to Be 10 Percent of Sales by 2020

The Volvo XC90 T8 is the company's first model to get a plug-in variant, although future editions of the S90 full-size SUV and XC60 crossover are expected in the next few years. Volvo will gradually add plug-in hybrid variants to its entire lineup—eventually offering plugs for all its vehicles as soon as 2020.

Tesla Autopilot Releases Software Update with “Autopilot”

This week, Tesla began the process of wirelessly updating the software in all Model S and Model X vehicles to version 7.0.
